Multiple attacks by suspected enforcers of Monday, November 18 sit-at-home order have left no fewer than five persons dead, and many others injured in some Anambra state Communities.
This is just as the Anambra state Police authorities said they are still working to get details of the attacks.
In a well- coordinated operation, the
hoodlums between the hours of 8.00 and 10.00 am, launched separate attacks on Abagana ,Ukpo and Abatete in Dunukofia Local Council, leaving on their trail five deaths, several injured and many valuable properties destroyed.
Eye witness accounts said the attack at Ukpo roundabout resulted in the death of one member of the vigilante group and a motorcyclist.
They were said to have been felled by indiscriminate bullets fired by the gunmen.
However ,the deadliest of the attacks was carried out in Abatete where gunmen targeted the President General of the Community.
The attack led to the death of three of the President- General’s guards from the local branch of the vigilante group.
The President- General sustained serious injuries which a witness noted are threatening.
“We are praying for the recovery of our President General. This senseless violence has left our community terribly shaken”, a witness volunteered.
A witness from Ukpo noted that the attackers emerged suddenly from nowhere, started shooting sporadically, shouting “no Biafra ,no freedom”. He stated that the entire community is presently in deep shock, trying to actually fathom what happened.
The Anambra State Government as at the time of reporting was yet to react officially .
But the State Police Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the service is aware of the development, and is trying to get details as personnel are already on the ground.
