In a bid to stem increasing cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities within their boundaries, and connecting roads, the Anambra and Enugu State Police Commands on Monday, March 24, 2025, agreed to launch a Joint interstate Border Patrol Team.
The Commissioners of Police of the two States, Ikioye Orutugu (Anambra) and Mamman Bitrus Giwa ( Enugu), at a meeting in Awka, expressed the confidence that the joint Patrol Team will assist in controlling the disturbing increase in the number of interstate and transborder criminal activities ongoing along major connecting roads between the two sister states.
The Source reports that Enugu and Anambra are part of the South East States severely hit by cases of kidnappings, armed robberies, terrorist attacks and other criminal activities.
A statement issued by the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, SP, informed that the meeting between the two states is in sinc with the operational framework of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, for enhanced Security.
According to Ikenga, the meeting, apart from the decision to set up the joint border patrol team, also adopted some far reaching measures aimed at improving security in Anambra and Enugu States.
According to the statement, the meeting dwelt extensively on the operational strategies needed to proactively address the security challenges currently facing the two states.
Among the major security issues raised was the infiltration of criminal elements between the two States, as well as the strategies to effectively halt the trend.
Consequently, the Commands promised to collaborate, particularly in the area of intelligence sharing, so as to ensure enhanced security especially on the borders and major connecting roads between the two States.
The two Police Commissioners, therefore, warned criminal elements to either stay clear of the two States, or prepare to face the full weight of law.
According to the statement, top officials of the two Commands were also part of the meetings which held at the Awka, State headquarters of the Anambra Police Command.
