The last has not been herd of the regional security outfit that has been created by the South west governors as Miyetti Allah, the Umbrella body of Cattle breeders in Nigeria, has warned that this will cost south west the 2023 Presidency if they do not drop the idea.
Since the inception of the All Progressives Congress, APC government, the Miyetti Allah has been making semi-policy pronouncements. However, government is yet to call them to order.
The Attorney general of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has said the outfit is illegal even when, after long persuasion, the police had agreed for the outfit to go on. But many Yoruba intelligentsia, including Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, threw their weight behind the scheme. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana had advised the region to ignore Malami as the outfit is perfectly legal.
But the Miyetti allah has frowned on the audacity of the region to contemplate the ides, saying that they should have stuck with their agitation for state police as this demand may cost them the 2023 presidency.
Their National Secretary, Allah Kautal Hore, Alhassan Saleh, said in an interview that South West Governors must withdraw support for the outfit if the region is to stand a chance of taking a shot at the presidency come 2023.
“This Amotekun scheme is political and is not the solution to the problem of insecurity. What the South-West governors should have done is to continue to push for state police”,he said.
“Where did they expect to get the funding from at a time some of them are struggling to pay salaries?
“It is best they give up on this idea because it may affect the chances of the South-West to produce the President in 2023.
“The thinking is that if the South-West, a major stakeholder in this government, can be toying with this idea now, they may do worse when they get to power.”
Since the Amotekun issue started, Bola Tinubu has said nothing allegedly because of his political ambition.
