President Bola Tinubu will, as from Wednesday, proceed on a two-nation diplomatic visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola.
He is scheduled to attend two major global gatherings — the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit and the 7th African Union–European Union Summit.
According to an announcement from the Presidency by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg for the G20 Leaders’ Summit, holding from November 22 to 23, 2025, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
He was invited by South African President and current G20 Chair, Cyril Ramaphosa. Recall that former Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, extended a similar invitation during his 2024 tenure.
This year’s G20 Summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will centre on inclusive economic growth, global debt challenges, climate action, food systems, disaster risk reduction, just energy transitions, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and decent work.
President Tinubu is also expected to hold “key bilateral meetings with world leaders, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and ongoing efforts to strengthen regional and global cooperation in security, peace, and development.”
At the end of the G20 engagements, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda for the AU–EU Summit scheduled for November 24–25, 2025. The meeting will assemble Heads of State, young innovators, and civil society groups to deliberate on shared continental and global challenges, including climate change, infrastructure gaps, digital transformation, creative economy growth, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
The President will travel with top government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and NIA Director General Mohammed Mohammed.
He is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two summits.
