Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, demanded a public apology from two people – one, a serving Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan with whom he has been having a messy running battle, the other, a former Senator, Elisha Abbo.
In a statement on Friday by his Media Adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio said he would proceed to Court if the two fail to publicly apologise to him.
Akpoti-Uduaghan fail foul of Akpabio when she alleged on Tuesday that he and two others planned to assassinate her. In Abbo’s case, the former Senator in an interview on national television alleged that Akpabio was instrumental to his sacking as a Senator by the Court of Appeal.
Akpabio strongly denies both allegations and has threatened legal action. He described the allegations as malicious, false and defamatory.
In the statement Eyiboh quoted the Senate President as saying: “As a statesman devoted to national unity and democratic values, I will not be distracted by malicious falsehoods or inflammatory rhetoric.
The accusations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan are not only false but a dangerous and provocative fabrication.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, he said had previously made an unsubstantiated accusation of se3ual harassment against Akpabio, which according to him, Akpoti-Uduaghan “later abandoned without clarification”, and noted that it confirms a “troubling exploitation of victimhood narratives for personal and political gain.”
The statement further said:
“It is a recurring pattern of weaponizing falsehoods and exploiting victimhood for political advantage.”
The statement, titled “Re: False and Malicious Allegations Targeting the President of the Senate,” also took on former Senator Elisha Abbo’s allegations against Akpabio on April 2 2025.
Said the statement:
“Abbo had previously retracted those claims in 2023, issuing a public apology after admitting they were based on false assumptions.
“Abbo’s removal was the result of a constitutionally grounded judgment by the Court of Appeal, not political interference.”
On Abbo’s allegations that Akpabio denied him his entitlements after he was sacked, Eyiboh explained that “Senate entitlements are processed administratively and not at the discretion of the Senate President.
“These new claims regarding being denied entitlements are also categorically false.
“The timing and similarity of these attacks suggest a politically motivated effort to discredit the Senate’s leadership.
“These individuals, possibly backed by hidden interests, appear united in a desperate attempt to undermine the Senate and its leadership.
“Regardless of the necessity for legal redress, formal letters of demand seeking retractions, apologies, and compensation are underway,” Eyiboh said.
