It was a bad day for former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi to die.
He had, on the 18th day of June, 2020, been strongly rumoured to have died. The Social Media ran with It.
But it turned out a huge lie.
So, everybody thought he would have the luck of former President Nnamdi Azikiwe who lived many more years after he was rumoured dead, and declared dead.
More than one week after he survived the rumour, Ajimobi’s case worsened. Some people had tried to sell a dummy of a recovered Ajimobi who was welcomed by his family. But it was an old doctored video.
His case worsened. He was said to have slipped into a deep coma, last Thursday.
Over the weekend, it was, alleged, he was placed on life support, and his family informed that not much could be done again for him.
Earlier on Thursday, President Buhari sacked Ajimobi and other NWC members and set up a Caretaker Committee. Ajimobi, until he was sacked, even though he was ill in hospital, was the factional Acting Chairman of the APC.
Sadly, he passed on the same day he was sacked.
Ajimobi a former Oyo State Governor, died at the age of 70.
He was hospitalised at the First Cardiologist hospital, Ikoyi, after testing positive for coronavirus.
A former Senator, he governed Oyo State for eight years, the first Governor to have done a second term in office.
He ran for a Senatorial seat in 2019 but, shockingly, failed.
Ajimobi was a former Managing Director at the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum company.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Florence, children and grandchildren.
One of his sons is married to a daughter of Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who on June 18, asked for prayers for his father-in-law, just like his media aide did.
A devout Muslim, family sources say his remains would be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday.
