The family of the late former Oyo state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, deceived hundreds of mourners and sympathisers, and buried him.
In a statement on the arrangements for the funeral issued on Friday evening, Ajimobi’s Media Aide, Taiwo Adisa, had said the time for the burial would be 12noon, and the venue, the Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque, Oke-Ado, in Sunday.
But it was a decoy.
While they gathered, long before 12noon, and waited in their hundreds at the Mosque, the family buried him at his Oluyole GRA residence, by 10.00am.
In doing that, they stuck to COVID-19 protocols on social distancing, and mode of funeral, and avoided the crowd.
The family had preferred to bury him on a parcel of land at the Agodi GRA. But the state government turned down the request on the grounds that the land was under litigation, incidentally, instituted by the late Governor.
Present at the burial were members of his family, and very close friends and associates.
In another development, his widow, Florence, confronted, angrily, the Deputy Governor of the state who had come on a condolence visit, for neither visiting earlier, nor calling since her husband’s death.
When the DG explained that he called, but his call was not picked, she retorted: “I am a politician’s wife, I don’t pick numbers I don’t know. You should have sent a text. Everybody will die. My husband was the Governor of this state for eight years.”
