First Lady Aisha Buhari has broken her two month old silence Tuesday when he send an Independence message to Nigerians, pledging help to the underprivileged in the society.
For over two months now, the First lady has been silent on National issues, fueling speculations on her whereabouts.
In a series of tweets, she restated her resolve to touch more lives.
“On the occasion of the 59th Independent anniversary of our dear nation, I wish to restate my resolve to touch more lives through Aisha Buhari Foundation and Future Assured Programs. I however continue my call on more privileged Nigerians, the Private Sector and NGOs to do more in the areas of Education, Health, Empowerment and protection of Women and Children. It is my earnest belief that the future is bright”.
She did not, however, make any reference to her long silence from the political arena.
Recall that there has been speculations on her absence in many national events. In most cases she was represented by either aids or appointees of the presidency. This has sparked off speculations that there may have been a reason, with some reports pointing at a possible disagreement with the alleged ruling cabal. It was alleged that since she went for Hajj in Saudi Arabia, she has not returned back to the country. Other reports indicate she has left Saudi Arabia to London where she is now.
But the Presidency has denied any problem with the first lady, saying she is free to go wherever she likes.
The First Lady has been a courageous voice telling truth to power. She was the one who hinted that the presidency is run by two or three people who were not elected. She was conspicuously absent among the entourage that went with President Buhari to the United States General Assembly, UNGA.
Buhari’s Foundations are known to have helped many underprivileged people, particularly in her home state, Adamawa.
