Chief Martin Agbaso has joined the Imo State Governorship race.

Popular as Ochoudo Owerri,  Agbaso will run under the Labour Party, LP.

A rugged and grassroots Politician, he was the Imo State Coordinator of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council in the 25th February, 2023 Election.

In a tweet Wednesday evening, Agbaso said he declared “In response to the overwhelming call by Imolites, well-meaning Igbo Leaders, and the global Obidient family, I have stepped forward to run for the office of Governor. Our journey  to fix Imo is now on course. Let’s do this together”

Agbaso is not new in the Governorship race. In 2007, he, from credible reports, clearly won the Governorship election when he ran under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, but the result of the election was inexplicably canceled by the powers-that-be who upheld the result of the State Assembly Election held same day as the Governorship Election. In the rerun election, the plan of those who canceled it was fulfilled when Chief Ikedi Ohakim was declared the winner.

Since then, Agbaso has been involved in the development of Political Parties. He was Special Adviser on Ecology to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He had been a member in a couple of high profile Boards.

Agbaso had also been a member of a couple of Political Parties – PDP, APGA, APC and, now, Labour Party – where he contributed to the growth of the Parties.

Born to the popular Agbaso Family in Ezedibia, Emekuku, Owerri North, his elder sister, Mrs Salome Zainab Marwa, recently late, was married to Brigadier-General  Buba Marwa, Chairman of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, while his younger brother, Sir Jude Agbaso, was a Deputy Governor of the State.

Happily married to his lovely wife, Robin, the union is blessed with three successful children.

Agbaso was awarded the National Honour of Member of the Federal Republic, MFR, by President Olusegun  Obasanjo.
