A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has confirmed Godwin Obaseki as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.
In confirming him, the Court dismissed the certificate forgery case brought against the Governor by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The party had alleged that Obaseki committed perjury by forging the academic qualifications which he submitted to INEC.
Specifically, they alleged that the 1979 University of Ibadan degree certificate which he submitted to INEC is a fabrication, and that he didn’t even have the requisite qualifications to be admitted to the University.
But on Saturday, January 9, the Court dismissed the case against Obaseki, affirming that he was not only qualified to get admitted into the University, his degree certificate, contrary to the claims by the plaintiff, is genuine.
Obaseki was a former APC Governor until the former National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, instigated the denial of a second term ticket to him.
He was a former political godson of Oshiomhole before they fell apart, irretrievably.
Obaseki went ahead to defeat the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, at the September 19, 2020 Governorship polls.
The spat between Oshiomhole and Obaseki caused Oshiomhole his high profile office as the National Chairman of the APC. He has since remained politically anonymous.
