Again, Gunmen  Attack, Kill  Two Police Men In Umunze, Anambra State

About five unexploded improvised explosive devices were, on Monday September 16, 2024, recovered by a combined team of Security Operatives from Umunze Police formation in Anambra State, the scene of another unknown gunmen attack.

The attack  which occurred in the early hours of  the morning, also led to the death of two police  personnel  and the torching of some parts of the Police facility.

The Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga ,SP said operatives of the joint security team are already on the trail of the attackers

In a statement on Monday, Ikenga informed that the two fallen security personnel paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of   responding  to the sudden attack launched on the police facility by the assailants.

“The Joint Security Forces comprising the Police, Army, Navy ,Civil Defence and other Security Agencies, recovered five unexploded improvised explosive devices and are pursuing members of the arsonist and armed secessionist groups who attacked the Umunze Police Station in the early hours of September 16,2024 .

“The suspected armed proscribed group invaded the police facility ,with improvised explosives,firing sporadically, and  set part of the station caught fire.

Unfortunately, two of the Police Operatives on duty during the gun battle paid the ultimate price in their efforts to prevent the assailants from causing further havoc.

Their bodies have been recovered and taken to the morgue.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Nnaghe Obono Itam, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment to reinforce and reassess security deployment.

“He calls on anyone with  information that could aid the investigation to come forward”, part of the police statement reads.
