The scandal surrounding the now defunct Intelligence Response Team headed by the suspended, embattled and detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, keeps multiplying.
Kyari and four other Police officers who are being prosecuted in Court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, are in Prison custody over Drug reated issues.
However, the NDLEA has unearthed another drug-related case against the Police officers.
A statement by the NDLEA, signed by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the Police Officers, declared only 12 Cartons of Tramadol to the NDLEA, out of the Agency, 197 Cartons of actually seized from a Drug baron, Emmanuel Ukatu, the Chairman of Mallinson Group of Companies.
They kept back 185 Cartons Tramadol for themselves.
Ukatu who was arrested on March 12, aboard an aircraft heading to Abuja from Lagos, according to NDLEA, is a major importer of large consignments of different brands and high dosages of Tramadol Hydrochloride, ranging from 120mg, 200mg, 225mg and 250mg, all of which are illicit. Ukatu owns pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing companies, which he used as a cover to import illicit drugs into Nigeria.
This is in addition to operating 103 bank accounts, most of which are used to launder money.
