The Super Eagles of Nigeria squandered multiple chances in their opening Group A Fixtures against the National Thunder of Equatorial Guinea in the ongoing African Cup of Nations Championship in Côte d’ Ivoire.

Iban Salvador of Equatorial Guinea opened scoring in the encounter in the 36th minutes to give his side a surprisingly lead.

Their lead lasted just two minutes as Victor Osimhen equalized for the Nigeria National Side with the first half ending 1-1 after the Super Eagles missed several chances to have taken the lead.

The second half was not different as the Super Eagles dominated the encounter but failed to register their second goal of the encounter.

The Equatorial Guineans remained compact in defense as they halt the attacking flair of the Super Eagles, as Osimhen wasted Two One-On-One Chances to give his Team the lead.

Following the failure of the Super Eagles to capitalize on their chances, the match ended 1-1, as both team shared the spoils.

Coach Jose Peseiro has surprisingly left the criticized Francis Uzoho on the bench with Chippa United Football Club of South Africa Goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali in goal.

Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, William Troost-Ekong and Zaidu Sanusi in the heart of the Super Eagles defense, with Alex Iwobi, Yusuf Alhassan, Frank Onyeka, Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman in the midfield with Victor Osimhen leading the attack.

With the stalemate, the Super Eagles are Third on the table and will face host, Elephants of Côte d’ Ivoire on Thursday, January 18th, 2024 for their Second Group B Match.
