Basking in the euphoria of its 1-0 victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Garoua Stadium, Cameroon in the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations Championship, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are optimistic of defeating the Falcons of Sudan in their Second Group match.
On Saturday, January 15th, 2022, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will file out against their Sudanese counterpart, with the determination to consolidate on its win against Egypt, by defeating Sudan and claim Top Spot and booking a place in the Second Round and Knockout Phase of the Continental showpiece.
Alex Iwobi and Joe Aribo have both expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will do everything possible to get all the three points against Sudan.
And ahead of Saturday’s fixture, both stars speaking on NFF TV, stated that the Super Eagles’ focus is to get the three points.
Everton forward, Iwobi said:”Me personally I’m always ready no matter what game it is. Obviously it’s a big competition we have already made our mark in the first game but we can’t be complacent. We are going to give the same motivation and desire in the first game and hopefully we can get the result we need.
“We are really psyched up especially that first performance but we are not going to rest on our hoarse, we are going to keep on going.
“The only assurance I will give is that we are going to give 100 per cent and fight for our country and the result hopefully we will get what we want but we are going to fight for our country.”
And according to Aribo: ”Preparations have been very good. The boys are ready, we’ve rested from the last game and we are just ready to go. We are prepared.
“We knew it was important for us to stay solid, stay together as a team work hard and give that extra 10 per cent (against Egypt). It was really good and a nice feeling for me being my first AFCON game so it was just a really nice experience and most importantly getting the three points.
He added:”Just like the Egypt game, we want to win every game. We want to take every game as it comes and that’s what we are here for to get the victory and put in a good performance.”
The last time the Super Eagles met Sudan in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, it won the double header match, 4-0 and 3-2 respectively.
In the first leg of the encounter played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, Al Shabab Football Club of Saudi Arabia striker, Odion Jude Ighalo scored a Hattrick.
He also scored a brace in the reverse fixture played in Morocco to book a place in Egypt for 2019 AFCON.
