The respected Man of Go, MOG, said the new Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland could emerge from the church, following the demise of the late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran on September 12, 2024.

The late traditional ruler joined his ancestors having spent decades on the throne of his forefathers. . There’s  currently a desperate search for his successor among the Kingmakers in the town, and from all indications, a prince from the town and a pastor in RCCG, Bayo Adeyokunnu is seriously being considered for the position.

Recall that a member of the church Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye was recently appointed the Soun of Ogbomoso in the neighbouring Oyo state.

The development, is however , coming following the recent controversy surrounding the decision of clergies  to become traditional rulers. While some analysts insist that the church and tradition should be separated, others say nothing is wrong with pastors becoming traditional rulers so long they are prepared to conform with traditional rites.

Adeboye while hinting that Pastor Adeyokunu could emerge the next Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, disclosed recently during the 70th birthday celebrations of the former that having known him for a long time, Adeyokunu has the qualities to become a traditional ruler.

According o him, “I have known him before I married his sister, and that has been about 60 years now. He is the first friend I had in the Adeyokunnu family apart from my wife. He wasn’t a big man then, just the little Bayo, but we bonded quickly.

“He got born again under my ministry. I can still remember the sermon I preached that day, titled ‘Come and Drink.’ He is still drinking till today. Every opportunity he had, he would want to get a little more. He is a warrior. He can pray anything out of you,” he stated.
