The Adamawa State Police Command on Thursday December, 26, 2024, described as false, and totally misleading, the news reports suggesting an attack on the convoy of the State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, by bandits.
The Source reports that the social media has been awash with news of the purported attack on the Governor’s convoy while returning from neighbouring Taraba state .
Palpable anxiety trailed the speculated attacks, amidst a similar attack on the convoy of the mother of the Taraba state Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas .
It will be recalled that Governor Kefas’ mother, Jumai Kefas, and his sister Atsi Kefas were early December attacked on the Wukari-Kente Road in Wukari local council of the state by suspected bandits
The Governor’s sister, Atsi died a few days after of gun shot wound sustained during the attack.
The fate of the Taraba State Governor’s mother and sister, has triggered a serious apprehension over the news of the attack on the Adamawa State Governor within the territory of Taraba State.
But in a statement, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP, Moris Danwambo informed that, it was only the advance convoy of the Governor that ran into a road block mounted by some armed robbery suspects on December 19, 2024, while returning from Taraba state .
According to him, the advance vehicle which was ahead of the Governor’s convoy,
as is the rule, on encountering the roadblock, gallantly mobilized to clear the robbers out of the way.
The advance security team which he said comprised mainly of security operatives, was to clear the road for stranded travelers and motorists who were forced to halt their journey owing to the road block by the robbers .
The statement noted that Governor Fintiri was never attacked nor any of member of his convoy injured as being speculated.
The CP therefore, commended the security personnel for their show of bravery and proactive response to the incident.
While appreciating the journalists for the immense contributions towards nation building, the CP, however, called on social media handlers to be more circumspect in the discharge of their duties.
