Strong indications have emerged that the number of All Progressive Congress APC Governors in the country may soon jump to 32 ,from its present thirty one.
This follows the admission by the Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the November 15 and 16 ,2025 Peoples Democratic party PDP Ibadan National Convention , Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri that intense and wide consultations are ongoing concerning his possible defection to the APC .
The Source reports that from a post-2023 general elections of 13 Governors ,the rank of the PDP Governors across the country has shrunk to a paltry four , with others joining forces with the ruling party at the centre.
Among the PDP Governors still standing and or perching are the Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum Bala Mohammad , Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state , Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state and Fintiri of Adamawa state.
However , while fielding questions from Journalists,on Thursday February 12,2026 during an assessment tour of ongoing projects in Jada Local Council of Adamawa state , Governor Fintiri noted that his defection to the APC will be decided by the people of the State.
He however expressed disappointment that some entrench forces within the system in the state are not comfortable with the prospect of his coming over.
“If it is the wish of my people to defect ,I have no choice , because politics is all about alignment and realignment.
“But then, there are people who are making noise. There are people who have made their lives to be like those of political merchants . They are so cheap ,that they can be bought by anyone. And this class of people are afraid.
“But for me, there is nothing to be afraid of by anyone. On my part ,I believe that I am coming to the table with a lot of value .I am coming with a lot of prospects.
” I am coming with a lot of foods to add to wherever we are going and whatever that we are going to do . So,I think there is nothing to be afraid of.
“Adamawa is ours. We have built this organic connection through developments and infrastructure that we have developed and given to our people , particularly human capital . So ,I think we are good to go.”
The Governor emphasized that consultations are underway with a view to arriving at a final decision on the issue of his possible defection.
“I am still consulting. I have told you that if it is the collective wish of the people for me to move , I will definitely move.
“If they say I should stay ,of course ,I will stay back ,and we will still win .This is my position .
“Wherever we go ,the most important thing is that we have delivered ,and we are going to win . Whoever doubts me ,let him come and face is .
“Let him come and face us . It is not to hide and be talking . You don’t play politics in your sitting room . You don’t win in politics by becoming political merchants”, Fintiri stated
