Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has backed peaceful protests by Nigerians over the harsh economic situation in the country.
General Abubakar noted that the hardship is getting out of control, with many struggling to afford basic necessities.
He expressed concerns over Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, and called on the Federal Government to take immediate action.
Receiving the leadership of the Campaign for Democracy, (CD) and Human Rights in Minna, General Abubakar noted that many Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities.
“The issue of transportation, fuel hike, school fees, and lack of funds is making life difficult for everyone.”
Abubakar suggested collaborative effort between Federal, State, and Local Governments to alleviate the economic hardship.
He also stated that the Government should flood communities with food and sell it at lower prices.
On the proposed #Endbadgovernance protest, General Abubakar emphasized the need for peaceful demonstrations, warning against violence and looting.
The leader of the delegation, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, had requested General Abubakar’s advice and support for the Federal Government to address “the economic hardship and implement programmes promoting active citizen participation in governance.”
