The Abia state Government has urged civil servants and other categories of Government workers to fully cooperate with the directives to upload their credentials, particularly academic certificates for verification.
The is even as it revealed that about 7 582 ,civil servants certificates have been sent to various academic and relevant institutions for authentication.
Prince Okey Kalu ,the state Commissioner for Information ,who made the appeal ,while addressing the media after an Executive Council meeting on Tuesday July 2 2024 , however expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance so far recorded
The Source reports that ,the leadership of the Abia state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC had in May this year , urged civil servants not to submit themselves for yet another verification exercise .
The Organized labour leadership ,which condemned what it described as an endless verification exercises ,also chided the state Government for not carrying it along in the latest exercise
But the state Government insisted that it is not carrying out any fresh verification exercise, but a move aimed at establishing the qualifications of the civil servants for the purposes of future appointments and elevations.
The state authorities maintained that many civil servants in the state ,are not having relevant certificates attached to their files ,a development that has made it difficult for the system to properly assess and place them
The State Commissioner for Information, said there is the need for civil servants to cooperate ,to avoid any administrative lapses in the system.
Prince Kalu revealed that ,so far 36 ,875 academic credentials have been uploaded by civil servants,. This is in addition to 25 ,458 professional and career related documents made available by the workers for authentication.
He also called on those ,who have not uploaded their relevant documents and credentials to do so promptly ,noting that it is not aimed at witch hunting and or victimization, but for the enthronement of a regime of transparency .
As would be expected ,the revelation about the forwarding of certificates for verification to educational institutions appears to be unsettling to not a few civil/public servants.
Such verification exercise ,is most likely to lead to the establishment of the actual ages of civil servants who may have altered their ages at the point of entry in to the system.
