The President General of the Abia State  Amalgamated Traders Association ASMATA, Sir Alphonsus Udeigbo, has thumbed up Governor Alex Otti, for exhibiting rare doggedness and commitment towards ensuring the establishment of a Federal College of Education in the state ,32 years after its creation.

This is just as he described the recent disbursement of an interest-free loan to 10,000 Small Scale business operators as a major catalyst towards fast tracking the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, of the State.

At an interactive session with the Media in Aba on Friday July ,19 2024, Udeigbo noted that the injection of N 1 billion as zero interest loan to traders, and small scale business owners  into the economy will no doubt increase commercial activities, shore up internally generated revenue and enhance the growth and development of Abia State.

This, in addition to the now prompt and regular payments of salaries of public servants, will potentially impact positively on the fortunes of traders across the state,Chief Udeigbo noted. .

” On the face value ,the empowerment of 10,000 business operators ,will in no small measure boost the GDP, and when you consider that now the purchasing power of  civil servants has been increase through prompt and regular payments of salaries , you will no doubt believe that economy of the state surely will witness a rejuvenation process.

We, the Abia traders, are happy with the development on two fronts. One ,traders ,our members have been empowered to increase the volume of their activities.

On the other hand ,consumers, particularly civil servants are being  empowered . The bottom line will be a quantum leap in the fortune of the state’s economy.” he emphasized

According to Sir Udeigbo, who is also the Chairman of all Chairmen of Aba Markets, the recent human capital development programmes of the state Government, will flourish given that there is already an enabling environment in place .

“With the massive infrastructural facilities which the present administration has put in place in the state ,beneficiaries of the loan facility, traders and the entire business community will operate seamlessly unlike  before ,when we didn’t  even have access roads to our shops and business premises .

In all ,we the traders and entire members of the business community are eternally grateful to Governor Otti, for once again reigniting our faith in the Abia project.” the ASMATA president stated.

Chief Udeigbo who is also the Chairman of the Eziukwu Road Market Aba, noted that the establishment of the Federal College of  Education in the state, will serve the educational interest of the residents ,create job opportunities, and further open up the economy.

“I stand to be corrected ,until now ,Abia was the only state in Nigeria that did not have a Federal College of Education.

“Besides, it was only last year or so that we began to hear of a Federal Polytechnic Umunneochi Abia State ..We are happy that this embarrassing situation has come to an end courtesy of the commitment of the present administration .

“At least, civil servants ,other public officials, traders, business operators and others desirous to further their education don’t need to go far any more.

“People can now access Federal Institutions without having to travel long distances .This is huge plus for Governor Otti.

“And on our part as traders and members of the Abia state business community, we will continue to lend our support and cooperation . At least there is something to work for now, unlike before” Udeigbo noted.
