Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has revealed why Boko Haram insurgents massacred scores of people in the Kaima Local Government, LGA of the state two days ago.
The victims were killed because they refused to accept the Book Haram extremist teachings, the governor said.
Abdulrasaq spoke on Wednesday while addressing religious and security leaders at the Kwara Government House.
On Tuesday, the suspected terrorists killed over 70 people, including women and children, an act that has drawn global condemnations.
Terrorists attacks have become very common in the North Central state since last year, as the terrorists are believed to be moving up south as the military intensifies a crackdown on them, forcing them to abandon their hideouts in the north east.
Following the recent incident in Kaima, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the military to set up a new command in the area to prevent further attacks.
The command operation designed to flush out the terrorists, will be known as “Operation Savannah Shield” Bayo Onanagu, the president spokesperson said.
Providing details on what led to the massacre, Governor Abdulrasaq said the victims refused to accept Islamic extremist teachings, as they preferred to continue with the moderate Islamic teachings which aligns with the Emirate ideology.
They refused to “surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine” that’s why they were brutally massacred, the governor said.
He explained that the victim’s refusal to accept the perverted Islamic teachings angered the terrorists who chose to murder them.
“From the information we’ve been getting, this village refused to succumb to a perverted form of Islamic doctrine,” the governor said.
“They aligned under the emirate, abiding by the Islamic faith. They didn’t want an alteration to how they pray to God, how they pray to Allah. Because they refused a change in the doctrine, they were attacked and massacred.
“It’s different from what we used to see when persons were kidnapped for ransom. But this was just a pure massacre and should be condemned.”
