One of Nigeria Police Force’s best when it comes to the cracking of murder cases, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has arrived Makurdi, Benue State to investigate the attempt on the life of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Ortom was attacked on his farm along the Makurdi-Gboko road by, according to him, alleged Mjyetti Allah members, numbering 15.
The Special Investigation Task Force set up by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, led by Kyari, is to continue the ongoing investigation into the reported attack and attempted murder of the Ortom.
The team, according to a Press Release by Force Spokesperson, CP Frank Mba, “led by a no-nonsense investigator, Kyari, – consists of operatives from the Tactical Investigation Units of the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) and other experienced, crack detectives with specialized competencies in crime scene investigation and reconstruction, ballistics, fingerprint analysis and other core areas of forensics.
“The Team is expected to take over and consolidate all on-going investigation into the incident. The Team is also expected to investigate all angles of the reported attack with a view to ensuring that all persons empirically linked to the incident are apprehended and brought to book”.
Mba also disclosed that the IGP charged the team “to be professional, thorough and clinical in their investigations.”
The attack on the Governor attracted outrage across the country, but the Leadership of the Miyetti Allah denied any involvement.
A couple of days after the attack, a group, Fulani Nationalistic Movement, FINAM, claimed responsibility, pledging to hunt down the Governor for, allegedly, persecuting the Fulani. Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said FINAM is closely associated with ISWAP, a terrorist group.
