Barely few hours after the 202 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, met with former military dictator, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) he has also had a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former Anambra governor met the two leaders in Minna and Lagos even as those familiar with the meetings said the meetings may not be unconnected with the state of the nation.
Obi said who posted the pictures of the meetings on his verified X platform did not reveal the details of the meetings, even though he hinted that all was about national interest.
Two sources privy to the meetings however informed the magazine that Obi must met with the two leaders over his 2027 presidential bid.
The LP strongman has yet to make his intention known on the 2027 presidential race, there are serious suggestions that he’s planning to take a second shot at the country’s top job.
In preparation for the next presidential election, Obi, last year established the Obidient Movement, according to political analysts who have also suggested that his days in LP are numbered due to the wranglings and struggle for control between him and the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
Recall that Abure, as part of the struggle for the soul of LP disclosed last year that the party’s presidential ticket is no longer exclusive for the former governor, thus heightening the the suggestions that Obi may be forced to to achieve his ambition to rule the country through another platform.
Speaking on the meeting with Obasanjo, who he described as a pillar and strong voice in the country, the former governor said it’s in the interest of the country, and how to move her forward.
He wrote: “Yesterday, I travelled from Abuja to Lagos to visit a father figure, Leader, and Former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, to wish him a happy new year and also deliberate on issues of national concern.
“To date, he continues to add his voice of wisdom to solving the many challenges facing us as a nation.”
Obasanjo had in 2023 threw his weight behind Obi, describing him as the best candidate to rule the country.
The former governor lost the keenly contested election to incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after coming a distant third, according to the results released by the Independent National Electoral commission, INEC.
