A brace from Victor Osimhen was all the Super Eagles needed to record an away victory against the Amavubis of Rwanda in Kigali, in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Super Eagles, who are condemned to win all their remaining six matches having played three draws and lost one without a win, proved their mettle as no pushover with the crucial win.
New Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle, recorded his first victory by starting the encounter with Stanley Nwabali in goal, and William Troost Ekong, Samuel Osayi, Calvin Bassey and Ola Aina in the heart of the defense; with Wilfried Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze with Osimhen leading the attack.
Osimhen gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 11th minute and doubled it in the 43th minute of the pulsating encounter.
With the victory, Nigeria has six points from five games and will face the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Godswill Obot Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State next week Tuesday.
