A last gasp strike from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was what saved the Super Eagles of Nigeria to register a 1-0 victory over the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Godswill Obot Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The encounter was the first leg of the double header between both nations in the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers scheduled to host.
The Coach Augustine Eguavoen-tutored team dominated the encounter from the blast of the whistle till the end, but the Libyans were resilient in defense, and showed character.
Sadly, they fell like a pack of card in the dying stages of the encounter when the North African side thought they had salvaged a point.
A cross from Moses Simon was met by Dele-Bashiru who tapped in, giving the vociferous fans something to cheer about.
The Super Eagles started the game with a 3-4-3 formation, with Stanley Nwabali In goal, Bruno Onyemaechi, William Trost Ekong and Calvin Bassey in the defense, with Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Moses Simon in midfield.
Leading the attack was Victor Boniface, while Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman were at the flanks.
With the Victory, the Super Eagles top the table with Seven Points, while the Squirrels of Benin Republic are closely behind them with Six points.
Libya will host the Super Eagles next Tuesday at the Benbaini Stadium in Benghazi for the return leg.
