The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, may not return to the Senate after his shot at the Presidency under the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.
Lawan lost the nomination bid to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu during their just concluded Primary. He was, initially, touted as the President’s consensus candidate.
Before contesting in the presidential nomination exercise, Lawan had endorsed Bashir Machina Sheriff as the Senatorial Candidate for Yobe North.
But Sheriff is now refusing to step down for the Senate President. According to reports, Mr Machina is clinging to the nomination to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a Senator.
Efforts from the Senate President to persuade him to step down has proved abortive.
Nigerian Politicians usually do that. They ask somebody to stand in for them when they are looking for a higher position. When they fail they ask the stand-in to stand-down for them.
