Shehu Sani Counts The Igbo out of 2023 Presidency

Senator Shehu Sani

A Human Rights activist, and the immediate past Senator, Kaduna Central, has counted the South East out of the presidential seat on the platform of the APC in 2023. He, also, counted the South-South out of it.

To Sani, only the South-West is qualified for the coveted office. The Senator has, therefore, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ask any Northerner aspiring for that office, in 2023, to perish the thought.

Senator Sani who spoke to Journalists in Kaduna, on Monday, said it would amount to ingratitude on the part of the North not to support the South-west in 2023.

According to him, no other zone deserves the support of the North and Buhari more than the South-west, considering the help the zone gave to uproot the PDP from office in 2015, insisting it would be unfair for the North to keep occupying the Presidential seat. To do that would pose a serious threat to the peace and unity of the country. The North cannot continue to dominate the leadership of the country, he said, because they have the population.

Sani: “The President should caution those from the North, eyeing the Presidency. Power needs to rotate to other regions. The South-west worked tirelessly to remove the PDP from office, and helped to bring Nigeria to where it is today and deserves support from the North in 2023.

“If federal character is applied on appointments and other areas, it should  also be applicable in the political space. “Therefore, the North should be fair and magnanimous to all, and give all regions a sense of belonging.”

A couple of days earlier, the governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, had asked for the jettisoning of rotation for the Presidency, saying only the best should occupy the office.

Not a few people feel that he is positioning himself for the office.

The South-west is also eyeing the office, with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, an APC chieftain,  allegedly,  being interested  and, for now, the front-runner in  the zone.

Unlike  the North and the South-west, the South-east, aside from double-speaking, and running one another down, does not seem to be making any serious consultations, or projecting anybody for the Presidential office in 2023.
