Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Associtation of Nigeria, MACBAN, Katsina chapter, has claimed ignorance of the story going round that they are going to shut down cow meat from the South because of opposition to the Ruga project, describing it as a rumor.
It will be recalled that the Myetti Allah, on National television, has said they will shut down the meat market.
“There is going to be scarcity of meat all over Nigeria as we are going to shut down the entire meat market because the Igbos and the entire south have not appreciated our efforts in making cow meat available”, a representative of the organization said on the African Independent Television, AIT, program.
But the state chairman of Katsina Chapter, Atiku Abubakar, reportedly said that they have not received any directive on that from their national body.
According to him, whenever such directives are given, it will be communicated via a release.
Though the statement has generated reactions in the social media, there has not been an official confirmation of the statement from the national body.
Femi Fani Kayode, a former minister of Aviation, advised the Miyetti Allah to keep their meat. Many southerners were skeptical, saying it will be good riddance.
“Keep your accursed meat and choke on it”, he wrote on his twitter handle, @realFFK.
In the wake of the Fulani herdsmen menace, some people started a meat boycott campaign as the best way to stop the killings, since it is believed that the herders themselves do not eat cow meat. Some went ahead to circulate pictures of herders mating with their cows to drive home their point.
But the boycott appears to have been ineffectual since Cow Meat continue to be a staple food in Southern Nigeria, especially south east, where no major ceremony takes place without the slaughter of cows.
